Statement by Chrysler Chairman Robert J. Eaton Concerning 97 Percent Tender by Daimler-Benz Shareholders

    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 26 -- The following is a statement
by Chrysler Chairman Robert J. Eaton concerning the 97 percent
tender by Daimler-Benz shareholders:

    "This is absolutely fantastic news.  When combined with the strong
shareholder votes last month and the positive reception that the announcement
of our merger has received from employees, suppliers, dealers and the
financial and regulatory communities, we have a tremendous amount of momentum
as we enter the homestretch of creating DaimlerChrysler.
    The people at Daimler-Benz did a terrific job of communicating the
benefits and potential of this combination to their shareholders.  We know
much hard work remains ahead, but this great start fills all of us with
confidence that we truly have the opportunity to create a new global
industrial powerhouse."
