    CHICAGO, Oct. 23 -- The 434 employees of Borg-Warner
Automotive, Inc.'s Automatic Transmission Systems facility in
Frankfort, Illinois, along with corporate, state and local officials,
celebrated today the operation's selection by Industry Week magazine as one of
America's Best Plants.
The award is prestigious national recognition of the 10 facilities in the

Industry Week Associate Editor Jill Jusko made the presentation to Ron Ames,
plant manager of the Frankfort facility since June 1998, and Kelis Thacker,
plant manager from January 1998 through May 1998.
"As a product leader in advanced powertrain solutions, Borg-Warner
Automotive has been building a culture of world-class manufacturing for
70 years," said John F. Fiedler, chairman and CEO, Borg-Warner Automotive.
"I'm extremely proud of the progress we've made at all of our facilities in
achieving this culture of excellence.
"Today, however, I am especially proud of our Frankfort employees for
distinguishing themselves as the 'best of the best' in 1998. Their
enhancements in safety, quality, delivery and productivity in the manufacture
of transmission bands have led to improved profitability and a more secure
future. We expect Frankfort to remain a solid anchor of excellence as BWA
strives to achieve its goals based on powertrain product leadership. I
congratulate Frankfort on behalf of everyone at Borg-Warner Automotive for
this tremendous achievement."
Fiedler also noted that Borg-Warner Automotive's Automatic Transmission
Systems facility in Bellwood, Illinois, which manufactures friction plates and
clutch systems as well as one-way roller, sprag clutches and mechanical clutch
systems, was among the 25 finalists for the award.
Chicago-based Borg-Warner Automotive, Inc. is a product leader
