CEMS Vendor Enertec Acquires Emissions Monitoring Pioneer KVB; KVB-Enertec Positioned to Challenge Emissions Monitoring Market
LANSDALE, Pa.--Oct. 22, 1998--Enertec Inc. Thursday announced it has acquired KVB Inc., a leading supplier of Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) used to comply with federal, state and local environmental regulations.
The two companies will be merged to form KVB-Enertec Inc., bringing together years of air monitoring expertise and an installed base of over 1,500 systems.
KVB-Enertec will provide CEMS, Data Acquisition Handling Systems (DAHS), opacity monitors, system certification and other services, according to Richard Whiffen, KVB-Enertec president. A privately-held company, it will maintain both east and west coast facilities.
"CEM vendors deliver far more than just hardware or software these days. Facing complex environmental regulations and rapidly changing technology, plants rely on their CEM suppliers to provide both regulatory expertise and technical leadership," Whiffen said.
"The merger of KVB-Enertec plays into each other's strengths. It positions us to better meet customers' needs as regulations continue to develop and change worldwide."
Enertec, founded in 1977, is an industry leader in the design and implementation of the Data Acquisition Handling Systems (DAHS) used with CEM systems. It supports reporting formats required by the U.S. EPA, state regulatory agencies and Environment Canada.
Prior to the acquisition, KVB had been part of the Research-Cottrell group of companies owned by Air & Water Technologies (AWT). Founded in 1970, it pioneered air monitoring systems for power and industrial plants, emerging as a market leader in supplying CEM systems required under the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. KVB supplies CEMS and opacity monitors to comply with federal regulations 40CFR, Part 60 and Part 75, state air quality regulations, and local permits.
KVB-Enertec will employ over 80 people at several U.S. locations, its headquarters in Lansdale, and a manufacturing facility in Irvine, Calif. It offers a full range of continuous emissions monitoring products and services, including system design, software development, system installation, training, start-up and certification, source testing, and service. Strategically located service centers minimize any potential downtime. Specific product and company information can be found at www.enertec.com and www.kvb-cems.com.
