SDRC Reports Successful Metaphase Enterprise PDM Implementation at Rolls-Royce

CINCINNATI--Oct. 21, 1998--SDRC , the worldwide PDM market leader, today announced the continuing successful deployment of its Metaphase(R) Enterprise(TM) Product Data Management (PDM) software within the Rolls-Royce aerospace businesses. The deployment is integral to significant business process reengineering and replacement of legacy systems under the Rolls-Royce Integrated Product Development initiative.
As the sole provider of IT services to Rolls-Royce under the long term CoSourcing(SM) relationship, EDS has prime responsibility for the delivery of PDM to the Rolls-Royce aerospace businesses. For the Metaphase implementation, EDS is collaborating closely with the Metaphase Technology division of SDRC as principal software and services providers.
The enterprise-wide deployment of PDM within the Rolls-Royce aerospace businesses began in July this year, with the successful initial roll-out of Metaphase software to engineers, designers and program managers working on the Rolls-Royce Trent 500 engine development project.
The initial system release delivered part classification and change management functionality. Further deployments are delivering additional design and engineering product data management functionality up to the point of release to manufacturing. The resulting capability is being rolled out to the Trent 500 project through early 1999, followed by deployment to other civil, military engine, and industrial projects both within Rolls-Royce and its partner companies.
