Briggs & Stratton Declares Dividend

    MILWAUKEE, Oct. 20 -- Briggs & Stratton Corporation
:
    At the regular quarterly meeting of the Board of Directors of Briggs &
Stratton Corporation, held today, a quarterly dividend of twenty-nine cents
($0.29) per share was declared on the common stock of the Corporation, payable
January 4, 1999 to shareholders of record at the close of business December 1,
1998.
