Pepsi 400 At Daytona Produces Record Attendance

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.--Oct. 20, 1998-- International Speedway Corporation announced today record attendance for Daytona International Speedway's NASCAR Winston Cup Series Pepsi 400 at Daytona weekend held from October 15th through October 17th. This running of the Pepsi 400 at Daytona marks the first time that a race was held "under the lights" at Daytona. The NASCAR Winston Cup Bud Qualifying events leading up to the race had the most paid admissions of any qualifying event in the history of the Company. The Pepsi 400 at Daytona and surrounding events were originally scheduled over the Fourth of July weekend but were postponed due to wildfires.
"The events surrounding and including the Pepsi 400 were very successful," said William C. France, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of International Speedway Corporation. "Thousands of fans packed the grandstands Thursday and Friday night for qualifying rounds, and the race itself drew a capacity crowd for the first time since its inception. In addition, on Saturday DAYTONA USA had the highest single day attendance in its history.
"We have already held successful events during the quarter at Darlington, Talladega, and now at Daytona. And, with advanced ticket sales for this weekend's NASCAR events at Phoenix ahead 24% over this time last year, we look forward to another strong event."
International Speedway Corporation is a leading promoter of motorsports activities in the United States, currently promoting more than 80 events annually.
