Federal-Mogul's Skokie Facility Celebrates 80 Years Of Manufacturing Excellence
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Oct. 16 -- Using the slogan "People,
Product, Plant, Proud," Federal-Mogul Corporation's Skokie,
Illinois, Sealing Systems manufacturing facility will celebrate its 80th
anniversary with a weekend-long Open House at the site, located at 7450 N.
McCormick Boulevard, in Skokie. The Open House will run from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18.
All 1,900 Skokie team members and their families will partake in a fun-
filled day that showcases Skokie's processes and products. The Skokie
facility is Federal-Mogul's largest in North America.
"This event is a celebration of the illustrious past and promising future
of our Skokie facility as it is the premier manufacturer of Fel-Pro gaskets,"
said Wilhelm Schmelzer, executive vice president, Sealing Systems. "We are
very proud of our numerous successes and thrilled to open our facility to our
extended Skokie family -- our employees and their families," said Eileen
Heisler, plant manager, Skokie.
Over the years, the employees at Skokie have earned numerous original
equipment and aftermarket customer awards. The facility is QS-9000 certified
and was recently named the 4th best place to work in America by Fortune
magazine.
The Skokie plant was acquired by Federal-Mogul Corporation earlier this
year when the company purchased Fel-Pro Incorporated. Fel-Pro was founded in
Chicago, Illinois, in 1918 by Hugo Herz, a felt horse blanket salesman and his
son-in-law, Albert Mecklenburger. Originally housed in a 1,300-square-foot
facility, the plant produced felt gaskets and washers for Model T cars. As
business expanded, the plant outgrew several sites, and in 1952, the firm
began construction at the Skokie location and consolidated its operations
there in 1957.
Today, the manufacturing facility occupies 950,000 square feet and has
over 1,900 employees.
Headquartered in Southfield, Michigan, Federal-Mogul is a $7 billion
automotive parts manufacturer providing innovative solutions and systems to
global customers in the automotive, light truck, heavy-duty, railroad, farm
and industrial markets. The company was founded in 1899 and employs 56,000
people. Visit the company's web site at http://www.federal-mogul.com for more
