Cargo Theft 'Out of Control'; Hi-Tech Answer to Track Trailers, Cargo
SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 12 -- The easy way to steal is about to
end.
Cargo theft is escalating in the United States and the reasons are simple:
stealing cargo is safer that running drugs, with less chance of prosecution
and large profits, according to The National Cargo Security Council. ATX
Technologies, Inc., has created
OnGuard TG(R) as a low cost locating solution for fleet managers. TG uses
Global Positioning System satellites and MicroBurst(TM) technology to locate
the trailer and track it.
"It's estimated that up to ten billion dollars a year in cargo is stolen,
and these costs are passed right onto the consumer," said Steve Riebel,
president and CEO of ATX Technologies, Inc. "In fact, if you bought a
personal computer recently, $125 of it was directly related to the theft rate
according to the Transportation Loss Prevention and Security Council of
American Trucking Associations. OnGuard TG is one hi-tech way to catch the
bad guys and recover the merchandise."
The TG system uses satellite navigation and embedded wireless technology
to feed information into the OnGuard Response Center. "We can pinpoint the
location and plot it on maps with timecode details. We can also download the
information on our own OnGuard web browser for a fleet manager, or law
enforcement agency, to see the information first hand and print maps if
needed," said Denny Voith, vice-president of ATX. The TG unit can be
contacted on a daily basis, or programmed to "call in" at a pre-selected time.
Beyond the theft recovery features of TG , fleet managers can use the
hi-tech device to keep a data log on all of its trailers and their progress
as a matter of routine business. "Logistics in managing a fleet of trailers
can save money, and a lot of time," adds Voith. TG lets a manager see real-
time travel data and makes planning and dispatching much more efficient."
Located in San Antonio, Texas, ATX Technologies, Inc., (http://www.track.com) a
privately held company incorporated in 1994, is the developer of TG and
OnGuard(R) Personal Security and Vehicle Tracking Systems. The systems
integrate GPS satellite and cellular technology to monitor and track missing
or stolen vehicles, trailers or equipment and provide navigation assistance.
ATX is the only company in the industry to offer complete vertical integration
-- from the design, engineering, manufacturing, sales, marketing and
monitoring of its product line.
