Chrysler Financial Reports Record Third Quarter Earnings

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Oct. 12 -- Darrell L. Davis, Chairman of
Chrysler Financial Corporation (CFC), today announced the Company had achieved
third quarter 1998 pretax earnings of $180 million, the highest quarterly
pretax earnings in the Company's history.  CFC's third quarter 1998 net
earnings were $116 million, a third quarter net earnings record.
    For the first nine months of the year, CFC's pretax earnings were
$518 million, the highest ever nine-month pretax earnings posted by the
Company.  Net earnings for the first nine months of 1998 were $344 million,
also a nine-month earnings record.
