Ford Aligns Organization for 1999 and Beyond and Elects New OfficersDEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 9 -- A realignment of Ford Motor Company's organization effective Jan. 1, 1999 and the election of new company officers at Ford to succeed those retiring at the end of the year were announced today by Alex Trotman, chairman and chief executive officer, and Jac Nasser, company president and chief executive officer-elect. "We're adjusting the management and keeping it lean and nimble to fit the needs of the future," Nasser said. "Experienced members of the team will succeed the retiring management and lead the company into the competitive battles of the future. I am confident of their abilities and experience and look forward to helping them build on the progress we have made in changing this company to succeed in the decades ahead." The new corporate officers and those with new or added responsibilities are: * Wayne Booker remains a vice chairman of the company with responsibility for assisting with the transition to the new management team, especially in the new markets. * Pete Pestillo is elected a vice chairman and chief of staff of the company, with responsibility for Human Resources, Governmental Affairs, the Office of the General Counsel, and Public Affairs. * John Devine continues as executive vice president and chief financial officer, and assumes responsibility for Visteon, Hertz and Ford Land. * Craig Muhlhauser is elected a vice president and named president of Visteon, Ford's automotive systems enterprise, succeeding Charlie Szuluk. He previously headed Visteon marketing and sales. * Richard Parry-Jones assumes additional responsibility by leading the company's quality efforts and is named group vice president - Product Development and Quality. * Philippe Paillart, chairman and chief executive officer of Ford Credit, also becomes president, Financial Services Group. * Henry Wallace is elected group vice president - Asia Pacific Operations and Associations. He previously was vice president - Strategic Planning and chief financial officer - Ford of Europe. * Neil Ressler is named vice president - Chief Technical Officer, Research and Vehicle Technology, with responsibility for Advanced Vehicle Technology, Scientific Research and Environmental and Safety Engineering. * Jim Padilla is elected group vice president - Manufacturing, succeeding Bob Transou. * Martin Inglis is named president - South American Operations, succeeding Padilla. Inglis previously was vice president - Product and Business Strategy, Ford Automotive Operations. * Bill Cosgrove is elected vice president - Business and Product Strategy, succeeding Inglis. Cosgrove previously was corporate Controller. * Vaughn Koshkarian is named vice president - Public Affairs, succeeding David Scott. Koshkarian previously was chairman and chief executive officer - Ford Motor (China) Ltd. * Mei Wei Cheng is elected a vice president and named president - Ford Motor (China) Ltd., succeeding Koshkarian. * Roman Krygier is appointed vice president - Powertrain Operations, succeeding John Huston. He previously was vice president - Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. * Martin Zimmerman is elected vice president - Governmental Affairs. Born Aug. 28, 1934, in Sullivan, Ind. Received bachelor's of science degree in economics from Purdue University. Joined Ford in 1959 as cost analyst with Ford Division. Held finance positions with Automotive Assembly Division and Finance Staff before becoming finance director for Ford of Mexico in 1971 and finance director for Latin American Operations in 1974. Named Engine Division controller in 1977, assistant controller of North American Automotive Operations in 1978 and assistant controller of International Automotive Operations in 1981. Appointed director - president of Ford of Brazil in 1986 and director - executive vice president of Autolatina Limitada, the holding company for Ford's joint venture with Volkswagen in Brazil and Argentina, in 1987. Became executive director, Latin American Automotive Operations in 1988. Elected a company vice president Oct. 12, 1989, and became head of Asia-Pacific Automotive Operations Nov. 1, 1989. Became chairman of AutoAlliance International Inc., the Ford-Mazda joint venture manufacturing company in Flat Rock, Mich., on July 1, 1992. Elected executive vice president Oct. 1, 1992. Since Nov. 1, 1996, he has led the company's efforts in growth markets around the world. MEI WEI CHENG, vice president and president, Ford Motor (China) Ltd. Born Feb. 9, 1950 in Hsinchu, Taiwan, and is a naturalized U.S. citizen. He holds a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering/operations research from Cornell University, has completed extensive graduate studies in marketing and finance at Rutgers University and is a graduate of Dartmouth's Amos Tuck Executive Program and MIT's Program for Senior Executives. He is fluent in Mandarin as well as English. Cheng joined Ford in January 1998 from General Electric Corporation where he was a vice president of the company and regional executive and president of GE Appliance - Asia in Hong Kong. Prior to this he was Chairman and CEO of GE (China) Ltd. Cheng started his career in 1972 as a plant engineer with New Jersey Bell. He worked for several telephone companies before becoming account executive, commercial sales for Western Electric Company in 1982. He joined AT&T in 1983 as managing director of AT&T International (Taiwan). Within AT&T has also served as director - Product Management, director - International Sales Operations, vice president - Business Development and president - AT&T China, located in Beijing. WILLIAM J. COSGROVE, vice president - Business and Product Strategy. Born July 12, 1945, in New York City. Obtained a Bachelor of Commerce and Economics at Washington & Lee University before entering the U.S. Army in 1967. After completing his U.S. Army service, he joined the Marine Midland Bank. He was selected for the Syracuse University MBA program, where he received a degree in 1972. Joined Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan, as a finance trainee in 1972. Later, he was assigned to numerous financial analysis positions of increasing responsibility in Product Development and North American Automotive Operations. He held several international assignments from 1980 to 1994, when he was named as Corporate Controller. JOHN M. DEVINE, executive vice president and chief financial officer. Named assistant director - Car Programs Finance in May 1989 and director of Finance in January 1991. On Nov. 1, 1996, he was named - Product and Business Strategy, Ford Automotive Operations. MICHAEL D. JORDAN, vice president - Ford Customer Service Division. Born Nov. 6, 1946. He holds bachelor's and master's of Business Administration degrees from St. John's University in New York. He joined Ford in November 1971. Following a series of Finance positions in North America, he was named controller of Ford of Europe in November 1983. In December 1987, he was named controller of Ford and Lincoln Mercury divisions, Marketing and Sales staff. In January 1995, he was named executive director of Ford Customer Service Division (FCSD) in Europe. Two years later, he was appointed executive director, North American Customer Service Operations for FCSD. VAUGHN A. KOSHKARIAN, vice president - Public Affairs. Born March 9, 1941. Koshkarian holds a bachelor's degree and M.B.A. in finance from Northwestern University. Joined Ford Motor Credit Company as a field representative in Illinois in 1962, and moved through a number of positions in the Lincoln-Mercury Division controller's office. Accepted a position as international finance analyst - Finance Staff in 1971, and remained in Ford's Finance Staff for six years in a variety of supervisory and management positions. Moved to the Car Product Development Group as advanced car product planning manager in 1977. Continued in car planning and programs positions for the following eight years. Became director-Finance for Ford Asia-Pacific, Inc. in 1985, after three years in Australia, where the company's Asia-Pacific Automotive Operations group office was then located. Became controller for Ford of Europe. Returned to Finance Staff in the United States in 1992 as assistant controller - Corporate North American Analysis and Automotive Components Group, and became controller - Truck Operations in Ford's North American Automotive Operations. KRYGIER, JR., vice president - Powertrain Operations. Born Jan. 11, 1943. Received bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University and a master's degree in management from M.I.T. Joined Ford in 1964. Held a variety of positions until his promotion to manufacturing manager of the Stamping Plant in Woodhaven (Mich.) in 1977. Appointed executive director, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and Process Leadership in May 1994 after serving as general manager, Body and Assembly Operations of North American Automotive Operations. He assumed the position of vice president - Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, Ford Automotive Operations on Jan. 1. 1998. CRAIG H. MUHLHAUSER, vice president and president - Visteon Automotive Systems. Born Aug. 20, 1948. He holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He joined Ford in July 1997 as executive director, Marketing and Sales, Ford Automotive Products Operations. In September 1997, he was named vice president of Global Marketing, Sales and Service, Visteon Automotive Systems. Before joining Ford, he held positions with General Electric, Lucas Aerospace, ASEA Brown Boveri and UTC/Pratt & Whitney. DAVID L. MURPHY, vice president - Human Resources. Born Dec. 26, 1945. Received a bachelor's degree with honors from Queens University in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Joined Ford in 1968 as a college graduate trainee in Ford of Britain. After a series of personnel and industrial relations positions, he moved to the U.S. in 1988 as a program manager in the company's Executive Development Center. In July 1990, he was named vice president - Employee Relations for Ford of Australia. Nearly four years later, he returned to the U.S. as director - Management and Organization Planning, Employee Relations. In October 1994, he was appointed director - Organization and Personnel Planning - Marketing and Sales. In November 1996, he was named executive director, Organization and Personnel Planning for Ford Automotive Operations. JAMES J. PADILLA, group vice president - Manufacturing. Born June 13, 1946, in Detroit. Received bachelor's and master's degrees in chemical engineering and a master's in economics from the University of Detroit. Served as special assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce as a White House Fellow. Joined Ford in 1966 as quality control engineer. Appointed program operations manager for the Escort/Tracer, Contour/Mystique and Taurus/Sable car lines. Became director - Small Car Segment, Car Product Development in 1991. Served as director - Engineering and Manufacturing, Jaguar Cars, Ltd. and director - Performance Luxury Vehicle Line, Rear-Wheel-Drive Vehicle Center, from 1992 to 1994. On Nov. 1, 1996, he was elected a corporate vice president and president - Ford Brazil and Argentina, Ford Automotive Operations. PHILIPPE PAILLART, president - Ford Financial Services Group and chairman and chief executive officer of Ford Credit. Paillart holds degrees in economics, law and business administration from University of Paris and Paris Business School. He is fluent in French, English and German Paillart joined Renault in 1975 as the chief economist of the Renault group and a member of the group strategic planning committee. Other assignments during his nine years at Renault included head of the Renault USA marketing group based in Detroit, which was responsible for product planning, marketing, sales and service. He also was part of the acquisition and integration team for the American Motors acquisition, starting in 1978. He joined Citibank in London in 1984, first serving as Diners Club International's director of strategic planning and marketing in Europe, Middle East and Africa. He moved to Germany in 1986 as chief of staff of Citibank's Central European region and head of planning and development of Citibank Germany, later rising to general manager of international personal banking activities in Europe, Middle East and Africa. RICHARD PARRY-JONES, group vice president - Product Development and Quality. Born Sept. 15, 1951, in Britain. Received bachelor's degree from Salford University. Joined Ford of Britain in 1969 and progressed through a series of product planning positions before moving to the U.S. as director, Technical Planning Office, Engineering and Manufacturing Staff, from January 1987 until January 1988, when he became director, Vehicle Concepts Engineering Office. Returned to Ford of Europe in September 1989 and held several positions in Body and Assembly Operations. Appointed chief engineer, Vehicle Engineering in November 1992. Named vice president, Product Programs, Vehicle Engineering and Design, Ford of Europe, in February 1994. Appointed vice president--Small and Medium Car Vehicle Center on Nov. 1, 1996. PETER J. PESTILLO, vice chairman and chief of staff, responsible for Governmental Affairs, Human Resources, the Office of the General Counsel and Public Affairs. Born March 22, 1938, in Bristol, Conn. Received bachelor's degree from Fairfield (Conn.) University and law degree from Georgetown University. Member of the bar of the District of Columbia. Joined Ford in 1967 as a senior research scientist. In 1971, named principal design engineer, Suspension and Steering. Appointed chief engineer, Components, Climate Control Division in 1981. He assumed the position of vice president - Advanced Vehicle Technology, Ford Automotive Operations on Aug. 1, 1994. JOHN M. RINTAMAKI, vice president - General Counsel. Born on March 2, 1942 in Wakefield, Mich., Received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Michigan and graduated with distinction. He was graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He is a member of the Michigan and Pennsylvania bars. He joined Ford in July 1973 as an attorney with Philco- Ford Corp. after serving nine years as an attorney with the United States Army's Judge Advocate General's Corps. at various locations in the United States and the Far East. He joined Ford Motor Company's Office of the General Counsel in September 1978 as a senior attorney handling international issues. Six years later, he was named associate counsel - Corporate Financing. In September 1986, he was named assistant secretary and associate counsel. In October of 1991, he was appointed assistant secretary and assistant general counsel -- SEC and Corporate Matters. He was elected to corporate secretary and an assistant general counsel of Ford Motor Company in July 1993. WILLIAM A. SWIFT, vice president - Controller. Born April 15, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa. Holds bachelor's degree in business administration from University of Iowa and master's in management from Stanford University. Joined Ford in 1965. Held a series of positions on Finance Staff until 1981, when he joined Car Product Development as assistant controller -- product analysis. Named project director -- business strategy for Corporate Strategy and Analysis Staff. He was elected a vice president and named Controller of Ford Automotive Operations on Jan. 8, 1998. HENRY D.G. WALLACE, group vice president - Asia-Pacific Operations and Associations. Born Oct. 20, 1945. Received a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Leicester in England. Joined Ford of Europe in the United Kingdom in 1971. Progressed through a number of financial management positions in Truck, Sales and Manufacturing. Assigned to the United States in 1983 as manager of pricing for NAAO Sales Operations. Became controller, Ford of Mexico in 1986. Returned to the U.K. in 1989 as finance director for the CDW27 car program. Became treasurer, Ford of Europe. Elected president - Ford of Venezuela in 1992. Appointed executive vice president - Mazda Motor Corporation, June 1994 and president of Mazda in June 1996. On Jan. 1, 1998, he was appointed chief financial officer, Ford of Europe and vice president - European strategic planning. MARTIN B. ZIMMERMAN, vice president. Born June 19, 1946. Holds a bachelor's degree in Economics from Dartmouth College and a doctorate in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined Ford in August 1987 as the company's chief economist following a distinguished career as a professor with MIT and the University of Michigan. In January 1994, he was appointed executive director - Governmental Relations and Corporate Economics.
