Federal-Mogul Announces Appointment of Gordon Ulsh as Executive Vice President - Worldwide Aftermarket and Retirement of Paul R. LedererSOUTHFIELD, Mich., Oct. 8 -- Federal-Mogul Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dick Snell announces the appointment of Gordon A. Ulsh to the position of executive vice president, Worldwide Aftermarket, and the retirement of Paul R. Lederer, who had served in this role. Ulsh's appointment is effective October 9, 1998. "Gordon is an experienced high-level executive who has been very successful running a multi-brand automotive business," said Snell noting that the company's aftermarket business will be 55% of Federal-Mogul's $7 billion in sales. "He has substantial experience with both original equipment and aftermarket customers. His 16 years in engineering and manufacturing management at Ford brings great insight into our aftermarket operations." Prior to this appointment, Ulsh, 52, was vice president of Cooper Industries in charge of the automotive products segment. Prior to March 1997, he had been president of the Cooper Automotive Division, vice president Cooper Automotive Operations - North America and vice president and general manager of Cooper's Wagner Lighting operations. Ulsh joined Wagner in 1984 as vice president of operations, following 16 years in manufacturing and engineering management at Ford Motor Company. Ulsh earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business management from Butler University. He is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and Society of Manufacturing Engineers, serves as the Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association vice chairman and director, and is active in joint liaison committees with the Japanese Automotive Manufacturers Association and Japanese Automotive Parts Industries Association. "We're very thankful for Paul Lederer's highly professional efforts to bring together three companies in an efficient and effective manner," said Snell reflecting upon the company's earlier integration actions with Federal-Mogul, Fel-Pro and T&N. "Clearly, he leaves us in a much better position, and we wish him well in his retirement." "This is an exciting time to be a part of Federal-Mogul as well as very rewarding professionally," said Lederer. "However, my family remained in Chicago, and my commute has been very difficult for them. The Cooper acquisition and the talent I see in Gordon Ulsh makes this an opportune time for me to retire."
