LucasVarity Supplies Brake System and Components to New Honda Minivan
    LONDON, Oct. 6 -- LucasVarity plc
(London: LVA, NYSE: LVA) announced today that its Automotive Division is
producing a brake actuation system, rear drum brakes and front callipers for
Honda's 1999 minivan, the Odyssey.
    Victor Rice, Chief Executive Officer, said, "This is our first North
American contract with Honda and one of our first applications in North
America of our actuation system.  We are pleased to be an important part of
this exciting new vehicle, and to be engaged as a brake systems supplier to
one of the world's most successful automotive companies."
    LucasVarity will produce brake actuation and rear drum components at its
plant in Cincinnati, Ohio, and front callipers at its Lucas-Sumitomo joint
venture in Lebanon, Ohio.
    Honda will assemble the Odyssey at its new plant in Alliston, Ontario, and
expects annual sales of 75,000 minivans in North America in 1999.
