National Laboratory Fuel Cell Review Demonstrates Progress
6 October 1998
National Laboratory Fuel Cell Review Demonstrates Progress The annual National Laboratory Research and Development Meeting of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Fuel Cells for Transportation Program was held on July 28-29 at Los Alamos (N.M.) National Laboratory. A total of 115 people attended the meeting, including 15 members of an advisory panel consisting of representatives from the PNGV fuel cell technical team, major fuel cell and component developers, university professors and consultants. The panel provided feedback and guidance to DOE on the direction of future research at the national laboratories. DOE presented two achievement awards to the Argonne National Laboratory Fuel Cell Technical Support Group and to the Los Alamos National Laboratory Fuel Processing Group.Progress on advanced fuel cell stack R&D
was reported by Los Alamos, Lawrence Berkeley and Oak Ridge national laboratories.
Fuel processing results were presented by Argonne, Los Alamos and Pacific
Northwest national laboratories. System and component modeling efforts
were presented by Argonne and Los Alamos national laboratories and by the
National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Finally, progress in direct methanol
fuel cell R&D was reported by Los Alamos and the National Renewable
Energy Laboratory. Collaboration with industry was evident in all presentations.
Transfer of fuel cell technology from the national laboratories to industry
is a major emphasis at each of the laboratories.
