Spacetec IMC Announces Official Spaceball Certification for Solid Edge V6
LOWELL, Mass.--Oct. 5, 1998--Spaceball FLX series of 3D input controllers provide complete
support for Unigraphics Solutions' Solid Edge application
Spacetec IMC Corporation , the premier provider of 3D interactive motion control solutions, today announced that the Spaceball(R) FLX Series of 3D motion controllers have been officially certified by Unigraphics Solutions Inc. for its Solid Edge(R) application. With this announcement, the Spaceball 2003 and 3003 FLX controllers provide full compliance with Solid Edge V6, offering intuitive 3D motion control functionality for Windows NT users.
Solid Edge, a revolutionary computer-aided design (CAD) system for mechanical assembly and part modeling, provides powerful assembly modeling, interference analysis, and workgroup data management that helps design engineers reduce design time and improve quality.
"Solid Edge is a powerful CAD application for the NT design engineering marketplace," said Karl Huber, Manager of ISV Relations for Spacetec IMC. "Certification of Spaceball support for Solid Edge V6 delivers significant value to our NT customer base, and is another key step in achieving our goal of Spaceball support for each CAD, MCAD, and Digital Content Creation application."
The Spaceball certification process has been successfully implemented throughout the major applications in the CAD arena. To gain official certification, Spacetec has provided the SpaceWare SDK (software Developer's Kit) and driver libraries, in source code form, to the Solid Edge integration team. By having Spacetec development personnel working directly with these teams, the SpaceWare code has been successfully integrated into the Solid Edge application codebase.
The result is that Spaceball 3D controller support is now part the Solid Edge product release cycle, ensuring users will continue to gain the benefits of Spaceball functionality in future versions and point releases of the Solid Edge application.
"We are impressed with the improved interactivity and increased productivity delivered by the Spaceball FLX 3D Motion controllers." says Bill McClure, Director of Solid Edge Business Unit. "The Spaceball is an ideal complement to Solid Edge, allowing users to optimize the quality of their design process, helping them create better products in a shorter design cycle. The addition of 3D motion control completes the users True 3D desktop, and allows them to realize the full power and value of their 3D investment."
Benefits of using a Spaceball include improved interactivity, simplified movement of large assemblies, greater design comprehension, increased productivity and earlier detection of errors. These benefits result in reduced tooling costs, improved product reliability, greater opportunity for experimentation, and faster time to market.
About the Spaceball
Spaceball 3D motion controllers allow users to simultaneously pan, zoom and rotate 3D models as they build, modify and inspect their designs or animations - right within their 3D application. With six-degrees-of freedom (6D) motion control, users simply push, pull or twist the Spaceball's PowerSensor ball for smooth and dynamic X, Y, and Z axis translations and rotations. By providing a natural and intuitive method for moving and viewing 3D designs, users are able to focus their concentration on the model - not on the method required to move the model.
