Chrysler Statement In Response to S&P 500 Announcement

    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 1 -- The following statement was
issued today by Chrysler Corporation :

    The new DaimlerChrysler will be reflective of what transnational companies
will look like in the future.  While we are disappointed at S&P's decision to
not include DaimlerChrysler in its 500 Index, we are confident that many other
leading indices will embrace the new company and see it as a worldwide
industrial leader.
    We have set aggressive performance goals for DaimlerChrysler and we are
confident that our future successes will warrant broad-based support in world
financial markets.
