Meritor Appoints Nielsen Sales Manager for New Sales Facility in Mexico
     GUADALAJARA, Mexico, Oct. 1 --  Meritor Automotive, Inc.
announced today the appointment of David Nielsen to sales manager
--  Mexico, for its new Heavy Vehicle Systems (HVS) sales facility in Mexico
City.  Nielsen will lead Meritor Heavy Vehicle Systems Mexico S.A. de C.V.
In his new role, Nielsen will direct key strategic sales and marketing
initiatives for the new office.  Under Nielsen's direction, the facility will
service all Meritor medium and heavy vehicle OEM customers in Mexico, as well
as dealers, fleets and aftermarket customers.
    Nielsen joined Meritor in 1993 and most recently served as aftermarket
district sales manager for Meritor's U.S. Southwest Region.  Prior to joining
Meritor, he was sales manager for TSE Brakes.
    In addition to Nielsen, other Meritor personnel supporting the new sales
office include Jim Price, manager of business development -- Mexico; Johnny
Martinez, aftermarket sales manager -- Mexico; and Miguel Martinez, manager of
Meritor WABCO sales -- Mexico.
    Meritor, with 1997 sales of $3.3 billion, is a global supplier of a broad
range of components and systems for commercial, specialty and light vehicles.
Meritor consists of two businesses:  Heavy Vehicle Systems, a leading supplier
of drivetrain systems and components for medium-and heavy-duty trucks,
trailers and off-highway equipment and specialty vehicles including military,
bus and coach, and fire and rescue; and Light Vehicle Systems, a major
supplier of roof, door, access control and seat adjusting systems, electric
motors, suspension systems and wheels for passenger cars, light trucks and
sport utility vehicles.
