IRVINE, Calif.--Oct. 1, 1998--Alyn Corp. , specialists in the design and production of products utilizing advanced metal matrix composites, Thursday announced it has been selected by General Motors Corp.'s Advanced Technology Vehicles Group to begin production of 12 parts for a new program.
This move expands Alyn Corp.'s scope of work with General Motors. Alyn is currently supplying the engine cradle on GM's EV-1 electric vehicle.
The parts for GM's new program will be made from Boralyn(R), a patented, advanced metal matrix material that is stronger than steel and lighter than aluminum.
According to Cheuk Ng, GM advanced vehicle engineer, "Alyn and GM's engineers are working closely together to provide the best engineered part for the application. The Boralyn(R) material is very light and provides an excellent strength to weight ratio."
Boralyn(R), is made up of a grade of aluminum alloy and boron carbide particulates. The boron carbide provides grain refinement along with great wear properties. Boralyn(R) will be utilized in producing the suspension, crossmember and control arm structures.

"We are pleased to partner with GM in providing their active consumer with the most advanced and innovative technology available."
Alyn Corp. will be required to meet all of GM's requirements for production. The company will begin engineering in the fourth quarter of this year, with the first shipment targeted for the first quarter of 1999.
