TelePad Subsidiary Awarded Contracts from Knoxville & Providence Police Departments

    HERNDON, Va.--Sept. 28, 1998--TelePad Corp. announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary L&E Mobile Computer Mounts, Inc., (L&E), a leader in the manufacture of mounting equipment and turn-key integration of communication systems and computers into vehicles, has been awarded contracts to supply the Knoxville, TN Police Department and the City of Providence, RI Police Department mobile computer mounts for more than 340 vehicles. The new L&E contracts are valued at more than $240,000. According to the announcement by TelePad Chairman and CEO, Don Barrett, the Company has announced numerous contracts during the last 4 months, incorporating its computer mounts and/or mobile communications systems into more than 1300 vehicles in 4 states.
    As a result of increasing demand from the public for tighter security controls and police response times and better information in the field, the market for mobile computing systems for these applications is estimated by the Department of Justice to be growing upwards of 30% annually. By incorporating the latest in mobile communications systems into its field vehicles, police departments, service personnel and emergency rescue departments are better able to make on-the-spot decisions based on information rather than on judgement.
    Barrett said, "We continue to penetrate new markets with our mobile computing solutions, capitalizing on the rapid industry growth and expanding brand awareness. Though the contracts with Knoxville and the City of Providence do not represent significant revenue, they are meaningful in that our new universal mount system is becoming more widely accepted, growing our base of customers across the nation."
    In addition, he said, "Each new customer had the potential to expand its mobile communications systems, thereby offering L&E and TelePad opportunities to generate additional contracts in the future."
