AutoConnect Selects Verity To Drive Its Web-Based Knowledge Retrieval Solution

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--Sept. 28, 1998--Verity, Inc. , a leading provider of knowledge retrieval solutions for the Internet, today announced that AutoConnect (http://autoconnect.com), the world's largest pre-owned automotive shopping site, will utilize Verity technology to help drive its Web-based service.
AutoConnect allows consumers to search for used cars in their area from a vast database of hundreds of thousands of vehicle listings. In addition, AutoConnect helps customers make the right decision about buying, selling and owning a car by providing reviews, pricing and auto-related resources from experts such as Consumers Digest and Road & Track Magazine in a convenient, easy to navigate format. The use of the Verity Information Server will enable tens of thousands of AutoConnect visitors to simultaneously browse AutoConnect's huge database.
The AutoConnect site is thoughtfully constructed to include a sizable array of important features consumers need to help them find the right car at the right price in their area. Beyond the "Find a Car" section, AutoConnect's "Finance and Insurance" area includes loan calculators and financing information to educate car shoppers before purchasing a pre-owned vehicle. This Fall, users can also turn to "Finance and Insurance" to receive real-time online quotes for auto financing and insurance in their state.
Other AutoConnect site features include "Sell a Car," where consumers can list their car for free on the Internet; "Find a Dealer and Local Specials;" "Car Chat;" and an exclusive "Resource Center" where potential buyers and sellers can obtain articles, ratings, reviews and information to help them during the auto shopping process. AutoConnect even helps car shoppers when they aren't on the site, by allowing them to register and receive automatic notifications for safety and recall information on vehicles they currently own via e-mail.
"Our goal is to help customers get all of the information they need so they can get the vehicle they want in one location," said Chip Perry, President and CEO of AutoConnect. "Using Verity's technology, we are able to create a complex site that is quick and efficient, while assuring that consumers get all the information they want and need, accurately and in a timely manner."
"AutoConnect is an ideal customer for Verity because it has a large collection of information that must continually be searched, indexed and instantly displayed simultaneously, for any number of users," said Anthony Bettencourt, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for Verity, Inc. "We anticipate that, like AutoConnect, more companies will begin to rely exclusively on the Web for sales and we are continuing to develop our products to meet the needs of these and other large enterprises."
