DISCOVER Magazine Seeks Innovations for Tenth Annual Technology Awards; Calling All Corporations, Research Labs, and Universities


    NEW YORK--Sept. 28, 1998--DISCOVER Magazine is now accepting nominations for its Tenth Annual Technology Awards program. Individuals and companies compete for awards in several categories: aviation, aerospace, automotive, communications, computers, consumer entertainment, emerging technology, energy, environmental remediation, imaging, materials, robotics, transportation, and video technology.

    The awards, often dubbed the "Academy Awards" of science and technology, recognize the men and women most responsible for recent technological breakthroughs. The editors at Discover are now conducting their most extensive search ever for new technologies which will afford the lucky winners the chance to receive worldwide acclaim for their innovations. Competition is expected to be fierce as millions of people witness this historic event, marking a decade of celebrating the finest pioneers influencing the world around us.
    In addition, all finalists will be treated to an unforgettable weekend at Walt Disney World for the Tenth Annual Discover Awards ceremony, presented by the Christopher Columbus Foundation. One winner in each category will be announced live during the televised event. Past participants include Al Gore, Gene Siskel, Jim Lovell, Buzz Aldrin, Natalie Portman, Alan Dershowitz, Ray Charles, Penn & Teller, Governor Whitman and NYC Mayor Giuliani, among other notables.
