Chrysler Files Registration Statement

    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 24 -- Chrysler Corporation
announced that it filed a registration statement today with the
Securities and Exchange Commission relating to a proposed issuance of 30
million shares of Chrysler common stock.  This is one of the steps
contemplated in connection with Chrysler's proposed business combination with
Daimler-Benz.
    Issuance of shares, which would occur prior to consummation of the
Chrysler/Daimler-Benz business combination, would be undertaken to permit the
combination to be accounted for as a pooling of interests.  The issuance would
occur only if the Daimler-Benz exchange offer, launched today, results in at
least 90 percent of Daimler-Benz's shares being exchanged for DaimlerChrysler
shares.  Chrysler would use the proceeds of the offering for general corporate
purposes.
