Selas Restructures Heat Technology Segment; R.W. Ross Named to Direct Global Effort
    DRESHER, Pa., Sept. 24 -- Selas Corporation of America
(Amex: SLS) announced today that it is restructuring its heat technology
business into two product groups with all areas reporting to Robert W. Ross,
Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
    Stephen F. Ryan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Selas, said that
the heat technology business will be divided by both size and type of project.
The first product group will encompass large strip line projects such as
Continuous Annealing Lines (CAL) and Continuous Galvanizing Lines (CGL) and
similar projects.  These are primarily multi-million dollar orders requiring
several years for completion.  The second group will include the products of
newly acquired CFR and other smaller furnaces as well as all combustion
equipment and replacement parts business executed in Dresher.
    "This restructuring will make Selas more efficient in serving our
customers in each of the product areas and will allow us to introduce more
quickly CFR's technology to the United States," Mr. Ryan said.  "By creating a
more concentrated focus in each product area, we expect to improve our overall
heat technology performance."
    Mr. Ryan said that he has named Frank J. Boyle, Vice President, Sales and
Engineering, as Director of the first product group in the United States, and
John Grever, Director of Sales and Development, Combustion Products, as
Director of the second group.  Mr. Ryan said that he has appointed John J.
Bloomer, Ph.D. as Product Manager responsible for bringing the CFR line to the
United States as part of the second product group.   Both heat technology
product areas, along with Selas, S.A. in France, which will continue to
represent both groups internationally, will report to Mr. Ross.
    Mr. Ross joined Selas in 1990, as Vice President and Treasurer, after
serving as Vice President/Controller of Alpo Petfoods, Allentown, PA.  He was
named Chief Financial Officer in 1993.  Mr. Ross will continue to serve as
CFO, Treasurer and Secretary of the Company in addition to heading the global
heat technology business.
    Mr. Boyle joined Selas in 1961 as a research engineer.  In 1988 he was
named Vice President, Sales and Engineering, a position he will continue to
hold as Director of the first group.  He holds a bachelor of science degree in
metallurgical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
    Mr. Grever is a veteran in heat technology having joined Selas in 1975 as
laboratory technician.  He served in several engineering posts including sales
engineer until being named to his current position.  He holds a bachelor of
arts degree in physics from Temple University.
    Dr. Bloomer joined Selas in 1996 as Manager of Research and Development.
He received his bachelor, masters and doctorate degrees in mechanical
engineering from Drexel University where he was a Frederic O. Hess Fellow.
Mr. Hess was former President, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Selas.
    Selas is a diversified firm with international operations and sales that
engages in the design, development, engineering and manufacturing of a range
of products including precision electronic components and assemblies, heat
processing equipment and systems, and cable winch products.
