Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association Says Tuneup Rate has Dropped
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, Sept. 23 -- The rate of vehicle
tuneups performed each year has dropped from five of six vehicles in 1993 to
less than three of five in 1997. The figures were released in an analysis of
U.S. automotive maintenance in "Replacement Rates of U.S. Automotive Parts."
A handy, pocket-sized guide published by the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers
Association (MEMA), "Replacement Rates" analyzes information on 62 automobile
maintenance categories -- ranging from major collision repair to air filter
replacement -- from 1993 through 1997.
