Gordon W. Robinson Named President - Timken China
    CANTON, Ohio, Sept. 15 -- Gordon W. Robinson has been named
president - Timken China.  In his new position, he will be located in Beijing
to be near the company's manufacturing and customer base.
    "China is a very dynamic market where we see enormous potential for our
products.  Gordon's set of business skills, marketing background and
international experiences make him particularly well-suited for this
position," said Thomas S. Dupaski, vice president - Asia Pacific for The
Timken Company's Bearing Business.  "He will be responsible for
strengthening The Timken Company's presence in this important market and for
ensuring that the quality of product manufactured by our joint venture, Yantai
Timken, meets the high standards required to feature the Timken brand."
    Mr. Robinson joined The Timken Company in 1973 as a sales engineering
trainee in Colmar, France.  He subsequently held the positions of sales
engineer, area manager - export sales - Scandinavia, manager - marketing
communications - Europe, and general manager - Timken Italia SRL.  Most
recently, he led the company's joint venture in Jamshedpur, India, as managing
director - Tata Timken Ltd.
    He is a graduate of the Trent Polytechnic Institute in Nottingham,
England, and completed an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering with Henry
Simon Ltd.  He also completed the advanced management program at INSEAD.
    Mr. Robinson and his family will be moving from India to Beijing later
this year.
