The Wackenhut Corporation Selected By General Motors Opel Division For Security In Thailand
    PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., Sept. 14 -- The Wackenhut
Corporation (NYSE: WAK WAKB) today announced that its affiliate, Wackenhut
Thailand, has been selected by General Motors Opel Division to provide
security and fire protection services at the automobile plant currently under
construction in Rayong, about 150 kilometers east of Bangkok.
    The three-year contract is initiated at a value of approximately $500,000
and will be increased in size after automobile production begins in mid 2000.

    Wackenhut Thailand Company has operated as an affiliate of The Wackenhut
Corporation since 1986.  It is based in Bangkok and provides security services
at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, as well as for a variety of commercial
customers.

    Wackenhut officers at the General Motors Opel site are receiving
specialized training by the Royal Thai Fire Brigade as well as from the
Wackenhut Project manager, former Denver, Colorado Fire Chief and ex-US Sate
Department Fire Marshal, Ralph Johnson, on how to tackle and contain outbreaks
of fire during both the current construction phase and the later production
phase.  Further specialized training in construction site safety is being
provided by the construction coordinating and safety company, Morrison Knudsen
Ltd.
    In addition to security and fire protection duties, Wackenhut Thailand is
responsible for the selection and procurement and deployment of all fire
fighting equipment, such as the seven hundred or more fire extinguishers which
will be required in the plant and a purpose build rapid intervention fire
truck.  Wackenhut is also responsible for the selection and implementation of
a radio communications system which will provide total radio communications to
all sections of General Motors operating at the facility.
