GenCorp Names Robert L. Calder President of Its Vehicle Sealing BusinessFAIRLAWN, Ohio, Sept. 14 -- GenCorp Inc. today announced the appointment of Robert L. Calder to the position of President of its automotive Worldwide Vehicle Sealing business unit, effective September 28. At that time, D. Michael Steuert, who has served as interim president since July 15, 1998, will again devote full time to his role as Chief Financial Officer of the Corporation. Calder will lead all aspects of the Worldwide Vehicle Sealing business and will provide an increased focus on development and implementation of strategies key to strengthening its position in North American and international marketplaces. Calder joins GenCorp from TG North America, where he served as Executive Vice President and Director of Waterville TG, Inc. and as Executive Vice President of TG (USA), Inc., businesses with combined sales of $450 million. TG North America produces rubber automotive sealing systems, steering wheels, airbag assemblies, interior trim and mechanical rubber auto parts. "Bob's record of strong and effective leadership in the automotive industry -- and more specifically in vehicle sealing -- makes him ideally suited to build upon GenCorp's recent program achievements and successfully leverage this unit's reputation for design and engineering excellence," said John Yasinsky, GenCorp Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to his recent position, Calder served as Chairman of Butler Metals in Ontario, Canada from 1991 to 1996. He led efforts to turn around and strengthen the company through joint ventures and the introduction of new technologies. Calder was Chairman of Associated Industrial Rubber of Montreal from 1988 until 1991. He was one of the founders of Waterville TG in 1977. Under his leadership, Waterville grew to become a major supplier of rubber automotive sealing systems to the North American auto industry. Earlier in his career, Calder held high level management positions in the retail, packaging, flooring and footwear industries. Calder earned his BS in Chemical Engineering from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He is a past chairman of The Autoparts Manufacturers Association of Canada and the automotive sector of the Canada-Japan Businessman's Association.
