Crain Communications Purchases Automotive InternationalLONDON, Sept. 8 -- Crain Communications, publisher of Automotive News, has bought the UK-based publication Automotive International and will continue to develop the publication into a global business magazine. "Automotive International is the perfect platform for a thoroughly global publication," said Keith Crain, chairman of Crain Communications Inc. in Detroit. "We have admired Automotive International, and it gives us a stable of publications that are edited specifically for the North American, European and now the global markets." Crain is publisher of Automotive News, Automotive News Europe and now Automotive International. AI Editor Chris Wright will continue to lead that publication as it strengthens its position as the most global of automotive business publications. Sales Director Nick White will continue to lead AI advertising sales operations. "This is the age of consolidation and globalization," said a statement by Anthony Cheverall, editorial managing director of Leading Edge Publishing, founder of AI. "Crain was our company of choice for the further growth of Automotive International. We take immense pride in our achievements over the past five years, and are confident the newspaper is in good and progressive hands." Peter Brown, associate publisher of Automotive News and Automotive News Europe, will also be associate publisher and executive editor of Automotive International. This is the last issue of the monthly Automotive International produced by Leading Edge. Circulation will be expanded in Asia-Pacific and Latin America, and the next issue will appear in November. The global title will be published six times a year. The purchase by Crain Communications Europe LLC will bring Automotive International into the Crain office in London.
