Nissan Names Tiarzha Taylor as Manager of Diversity Strategy and Coordination
CARSON, Calif., Sept. 8 -- Reinforcing Nissan's minority
initiative which was announced at the National Association of Minority
Automobile Dealers (NAMAD) conference in June, Nissan Motor Corporation U.S.A.
(NMC) has named Tiarzha M. Taylor as manager of diversity strategy and
coordination.
Taylor is responsible for the overall coordination and progress of
diversity programs at Nissan's corporate office and its affiliate companies.
Specifically, Taylor will coordinate the areas of dealer development, parts
and supplier purchases, employee development and community outreach. John
Williams, who Nissan recently named manager of strategic representation, will
coordinate with Taylor on dealer development.
In this new position, Taylor reports to Bucky Kahl, vice president of
human resources and organizational development. Additionally, Taylor will
provide a quarterly report on the progress of these initiatives. The Nissan
North America, Inc. (NNA) board of directors has specifically requested these
reports to keep fully apprised of this important effort.
Nissan's broad-based minority initiative sets specific targets for
increasing minority representation in the company's dealer body, as well as a
directive to increase diversity among the company's North American affiliates,
employees and suppliers.
Among its dealer body, Nissan is committed to increasing minority
representation 25 percent by the year 2002, with plans to double its
African-American dealer count during that period.
Nissan's supplier purchasing goals are equally aggressive, with plans to
achieve at least a five percent ratio of expenditures through minority-owned
suppliers by 2002.
"I am proud to say that our executive board has completely endorsed the
company's minority initiative and it has become part of our everyday
business," said Minoru Nakamura, president and CEO of NMC. "Taylor has been
given our complete support to ensure our minority goals are achieved and she
will report directly to the board of directors on the progress of these
initiatives."
In 1996 Taylor joined Nissan as a specialist in human resources and
diversity. She helped develop and launch Nissan's Diversity Awareness
Training Program, training more than 1,000 employees in Nissan's parts
distribution centers and 10 regional offices nationwide.
Prior to joining Nissan, Taylor held the positions of assistant manager
for Athletics International and album coordinator, black music, for Warner
Bros. Records.
Taylor received a bachelor of arts degree in communications with a
specialization in business administration from University of California in Los
Angeles (UCLA) and a master's degree in business administration from The
Anderson School at UCLA.
In North America, Nissan's operations include styling, engineering,
manufacturing, sales, consumer and corporate financing, and industrial and
textile equipment. Nissan in North America employs more than 20,000 people in
the United States, Canada and Mexico, and generates more than 70,000 jobs
through more than 1,500 Nissan and Infiniti dealerships across the continent.
