James F. Mason Named Intermet Group Vice President
    TROY, Mich., Sept. 8 -- John Doddridge, chairman and chief
executive officer of Intermet Corporation , announced today that
James F. Mason has been promoted to group vice president of Intermet.  In this
newly created position, Mason will be located at the corporate office in Troy,
Michigan and will assume responsibility for a number of Intermet's operating
units.
    Mason most recently served as president of Wagner Castings Company, which
came to Intermet in January 1997 as a result of the Sudbury acquisition.  He
has been with Wagner in Decatur, Illinois since 1984 serving in several
positions before becoming president in April 1988.  Prior to joining Wagner,
Mason was president of Mason Steel Fabricating, and earlier in his career, was
employed by General Motors' Central Foundry Division.
    Mason has been an active member of the American Foundrymen's Society (AFS)
and is the current chairman of the Economic Development Committee for Macon
County (Illinois).  He also serves on the cabinet for his area YMCA/YWCA
Capital Campaign Fund, and is past chairman of the Metropolitan Chamber of
Commerce.
    With headquarters in Troy, Michigan, Intermet Corporation and its
subsidiaries design and manufacture precision iron and aluminum cast
components for automotive and industrial equipment manufacturers worldwide.
