Jaguar Posts Record August for Sedan Sales
MAHWAH, N.J., Sept. 3 -- Prestige car buyers in the U.S.
drove Jaguar to a record August for sedan sales. Sales of 1,458 sedans, up
84 percent compared with August 1997, topped Jaguar's previous best August --
1,443 sedan sales in 1987.
Total August sales for Jaguar were 1,849, up 37.5 percent compared with
the same month a year ago. Year-to-date sales of 14,405 were up 20 percent
compared with the same period a year ago marking Jaguar's 10th consecutive
month of improved year-over-year sales.
"This is the best year in Jaguar's U.S. history since 1986," said Stephen
T. Odell, Jaguar Cars vice president of Sales and Marketing. "Our continued
success in the marketplace demonstrates that our customers are finding what
they are looking for in a prestige automobile including style and quality."
Jaguar sales in Canada totaled 70 cars for the month of August, up
35 percent compared with August 1997. Sedan sales of 62 units was up
77 percent compared with the same month last year. Year-to-date sales of
856 vehicles demonstrated an improvement of 24 percent compared with the first
10 months of 1997.
Jaguar's product lineup in the U.S. and Canada includes six models: the
XJ8, XJ8 L, Vanden Plas and XJR sedans, and the XK8 coupe and convertible.
Jaguar's entire lineup features the award-winning 4.0-liter AJ-V8 engine as
well as Jaguar's distinctive styling both inside and out.
