Jaguar Special Edition Airplane Flies Home
MAHWAH, N.J., Sept. 2 -- Today the Jaguar Special Edition
airplane completed a 4,000-mile journey from Jaguar North America to its home
near Jaguar's headquarters in Coventry, England. The plane, piloted by
Michael H. Dale, president of Jaguar North America, and Blair Sullivan,
manager of Turboprop & Piston Products Marketing for Raytheon Aircraft, landed
not far from where it was designed, Jaguar's Whitley Engineering Center.
"We brought this beautiful machine back to its nest," said Dale. "With
this plane, Jaguar and Raytheon have taken luxury transportation to new
heights -- 25,000 feet -- and it's a wonderful feeling to be able to bring
this labor of love back to the people who helped create it."
The aircraft is based on the Beech King Air C90B. The Jaguar styling team
in Coventry worked with Raytheon's staff to develop the design theme for the
fuselage livery and interior furnishings, including specific colors and
materials.
Blended with Jaguar's unique style, the aircraft offers business-aircraft
customers the utmost in luxury accommodations. The cabin's leather surfaces,
which include seat upholstery and sidewall coverings, are premium quality
hides from longtime Jaguar supplier Connolly Leather, Ltd., rendered in the
Jaguar hue "Ivory." The interior ambiance is enhanced by the rich aura of
burl walnut on the cabinetry, beltline trim and fold-down tables; boxwood
inlays provide a further link to the Jaguar design vocabulary. A
green-and-gold exterior color scheme gives the aircraft a distinguished
appearance, with the Jaguar leaper symbol and logotype on the tail.
Since its reveal at Detroit's North American International Auto Show in
January 1998, every Jaguar Special Edition airplane has been sold. "The
flight home to Jaguar demonstrates how we've been true partners in this
venture," said Sullivan. "We were co-pilots on the flight and in the project,
and it's been a true success."
