Colliver Named to Head Honda, Acura Divisions
ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 2 -- Richard A. Colliver, executive vice
president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., has been named to head up both
Honda and Acura automobile divisions effective immediately, it was announced
here today at the annual meeting of Acura dealers.
In this new position, Colliver, who joined American Honda in 1993 as head
of the Honda Division after more than 35 years in the auto industry, is now
responsible for sales activities of the two automobile divisions.
"In this very competitive marketplace, it is more important than ever to
improve the synergy between the Honda and Acura divisions," said Koichi
Amemiya, president of American Honda. "Dick Colliver will be responsible for
making sure the operations of the two distinct divisions work hand-in-hand and
take full advantage of the strengths American Honda has to offer."
Richard B. Thomas, who has been with American Honda since 1978 and served
as executive vice president of the Acura Division since 1993, will continue as
a member of the executive management team and Board of Directors, reporting
directly to Mr. Amemiya, and will focus on broader areas of corporate
involvement.
"Rich has played an important role in re-positioning and enhancing the
Acura brand in the luxury market," Amemiya said. "Under his leadership the
Division has built a solid foundation for Acura's future, including the
introduction of the first U.S.-built Acura models, the CL coupe and all-new TL
luxury sedan."
Combined Honda and Acura sales set an all-time record in 1997 of 940,386.
Combined sales for the first eight months of '98 are running 7.4 percent ahead
of year-ago record levels.
