It's Pedal to the Metal for EDS/ANX: EDS Named Certified Service Provider for Automotive Network Exchange, End-to-end Technology Offers Fast Track for Extranet Users
DETROIT--Sept. 1, 1998--EDS and its Electronic Business unit are speeding ahead with the automotive industry's migration to the Automotive Network eXchange(R) (ANX), a highly-secure extranet that will allow the entire trading community to conduct business electronically.
EDS, named one of the first certified service providers, will also be the only corporation to offer a comprehensive package of electronic business services, including connectivity and value-added services. That capability allows trading partners to move rapidly to doing business on ANX. The certification announcement is being made today at AUTO-TECH in Detroit.
"Getting connected to ANX is just the beginning. Using it effectively will be critical," says Paul Rudolph, president of the Electronic Business strategic business unit at EDS. "That's where our long history in the automotive and information services arenas differentiates us from any of our competitors and affords our clients a fast-track to doing business electronically."
EDS becomes one of the first certified service providers for ANX, following the completion of a successful pilot process.
During the five month pilot, EDS worked with five major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and 35 trading partners scattered across the U.S. and Canada. Rather than use "test data" for the pilot, EDS moved and migrated live information across the network.
During the pilot process, EDS maintained network availability of more than 99-percent, and provided testing for the next generation of security.
"EDS gave us exemplary support during the ANX(R) pilot," says John Haning, Director of Management Information Systems for HMS Co., LLC. "Working with EDS and the ANX virtual private network allowed us to quickly and efficiently transfer large CAD files, other types of documentation and e-mail, thereby opening the lines of communication for us on a truly global basis."
EDS will offer end-to-end service for ANX clients, including electronic business enablement services, systems integration support and professional consulting services. EDS will also offer value-add options such as EDI Translation Services, electronic catalog, plotting services, and Trading Partner Management.
Automotive Network eXchange is an efficient, secure electronic network designed to meet the needs of the automotive industry. ANX provides original equipment manufacturers and suppliers the ability to communicate in a consistent manner using Internet protocol. ANX provides different capabilities than the public Internet, including guaranteed service quality, centralized administration, advanced security, better performance and assured reliability.
