Chrysler Helps Light the DAPCEP Spark with $1 Million ContributionAUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 1 -- Supporting educational initiatives that encourage youth to pursue engineering and science careers has always been a focus at Chrysler Corporation . To show its commitment, Chrysler Corporation will donate $1 million to DAPCEP's "Light the Spark" campaign today at 10:30 a.m. at the Rackham Memorial Building in Detroit. Bernard Robertson, Vice President-Engineering Technologies and General Manager-Truck Operations, will present the check on behalf of Chrysler. "Chrysler remains committed to organizations like DAPCEP that provide youth with skills that will help contribute to their future success as we move toward the next millennium. Supporting education and preparing youth to enter the workforce continues to be a priority at Chrysler," said Robertson. "At Chrysler, we believe there is a definite relationship between support of educational development and a well-skilled, ready workforce. When corporations support initiatives like DAPCEP, it proves to be a win-win-win situation for everyone -- our youth, the education community and the corporations." DAPCEP plans to raise $7 million by the first quarter of 1999 to expand programming, increase collaboration with additional school districts and establish an endowment fund for ensured financial stability. To date, $3.5 million has been raised. DAPCEP was established in 1976 to increase the number of middle and high school minority students who are motivated and academically prepared to pursue careers in the science, engineering and technical fields.
