DuPont Automotive Announces Two Management Appointments; Executives to Lead Company's Finishes Business With U.S. AutomakersTROY, Mich., Aug. 31 -- Two DuPont executives, Robert P. Strazzella and James R. Weigand, have been appointed to global business director positions to serve the worldwide automotive coatings needs of U.S. automakers. The announcements were made by John R. Lewis, vice president, DuPont Automotive - OEM Finishes. Strazzella becomes worldwide business director for DuPont's Chrysler and General Motors OEM Finishes business, with primary responsibility for coordinating marketing, manufacturing and technical resources in automotive finishes related to the two automakers. Simultaneously, Weigand becomes DuPont worldwide business director, Ford OEM Finishes, primarily responsible for coordinating marketing, manufacturing and technical resources in automotive finishes related to Ford Motor Co. "These appointments reflect the increasing global nature of our customers' operations and DuPont's finishes business," Lewis said. Strazzella previously served as general manager-development for all DuPont Automotive business with General Motors, a position he held since 1990. He was given additional responsibility in 1997 as general manager-development for Chrysler. Strazzella joined the DuPont Refinish Division in 1969 and held marketing positions such as New Orleans branch manager in 1980 and Atlanta branch manager in 1981. He was named marketing services manager for the OEM Finishes Division in 1987. From 1988 to 1990, Strazzella was finishes sales and marketing manager for DuPont's General Motors business. Weigand previously served as business manager for the DuPont Worldwide High Performance Coatings business from 1995 until he assumed his current position. In 1981, Weigand joined DuPont in the Wilmington, Del., finance department, holding staff and supervisory positions in mergers, acquisitions and federal international taxes. In 1987, he transferred to Troy as a business consultant and later was named planning manager, OEM Finishes. Weigand moved to Bonn, Germany, in 1991 and served as European director of sales and marketing for International DuPont Automotive Coatings (IDAC) until 1995. With world headquarters in Troy, Mich., DuPont Automotive offers more than 100 product lines to the global automotive industry, including plastics, advanced composites, finishes, fibers, fabricated products, refrigerants, specialty chemicals and lubricants. DuPont worldwide automotive sales were $4 billion in 1997. Strazzella and his family reside in Rochester Hills, Mich. Weigand and his family maintain residences in Rochester, Mich., and West Chester, Pa.
