UAW Members Ratify First Contract At Lear Seating Corporation, Lordstown, Ohio
    CLEVELAND, Aug. 30 -- UAW Region 2 Director Warren Davis
announced today the ratification of the contract between the UAW and the Lear
Corporation at Lordstown, Ohio.  Agreement was reached just two and one-half
hours prior to the strike deadline midnight, Thursday, August 27.
    Following are some highlights of the newly negotiated agreement:

    * Wages:  The contract calls for an immediate increase of a minimum of
              $3.00 an hour per member.
              Over the three year period of the contract, the hourly wages
              will increase by $4.50 ($3.00 in the first year and 75 cents
              each in the 2nd and 3rd years for a total of $4.50 minimum for
              the three year contract).  A signing bonus of $1,250 per member
              was also negotiated.

    * Cost of Living Allowance Established -- Third year of contract.

    * Holidays: 51 days over three years, which includes in each year the
                Christmas/New Year's Week paid holiday shutdown.

    * Vacation: Ranging from 1 week for 6 months to 1 year seniority to
                4 weeks for 15 years or more seniority.

    * Health Care Benefits:  Full Medical Blue Cross/Blue Shield Coverage;
                             Prescription Drug Coverage; Dental Coverage;
                             Vision Coverage.

    * 401(k) Retirement Plan negotiated.

    * Increases each year of the contract in Life Insurance and Accidental
      Death & Dismemberment and Sickness and Accident Coverage.

    * Union Security.

    * Seniority.

    * Union Representation.

    * Grievance Procedure.

    * Overtime Agreement: Time and one-half for all hours over 8 hours
      in one day and on Saturdays; double time for Sundays; and triple time
      for holidays.

    * Stringent language was also added to insure strict adherence to health
      and safety standards.
