Tenneco Named One of IndustryWeek's 100 Best-Managed Manufacturers for Third Straight Year
GREENWICH, Conn.--Aug. 27, 1998-- Tenneco has been selected by IndustryWeek (IW) Magazine as one of the world's 100 best-managed manufacturers for the third straight year.
"IndustryWeek's 100 Best-Managed Companies demonstrate superior, consistent management performance," said John Brandt, editor-in-chief of IndustryWeek. Tenneco Inc., manufacturing plants also have been selected by IndustryWeek Magazine as being among the Ten Best Plants in America the last two years. Tenneco Packaging's Counce, Tenn., and Tenneco Automotive's Paragould, Ark., manufacturing facilities were among the Ten Best Plants in 1996 and 1997 respectively. Tenneco Automotive's manufacturing facility in Aberdeen, Miss., has been selected one of the top 25 plants in America this year and is in contention for one of the Ten Best Plants awards to be announced by IW in October.
Candidates for IndustryWeek's 100 Best-Managed Companies were chosen by IW editors from the IndustryWeek 1000, a list of the world's largest publicly held manufacturing companies released in June. Two companies of the Dun & Bradstreet Corporation - Dun & Bradstreet and Moody's Investors service - supplied data for the IW 1000.
The 100 Best-Managed Companies were selected on the basis of a four-step process that included: 1. Analysis of companies' financial performance; 2. Review of a response questionnaire from competing companies; 3. Research into each company's practices in areas such as philanthropy and safety; and 4. Voting by a panel of more than 80 world business leaders, analysts and academicians from around the world.
Twenty-one companies appear on the list for the first time; 15 companies appear for the second time; and 64 companies have made the list each year. Twelve countries are represented on the list: the United States (72 companies), the United Kingdom (7), Japan (6), Germany (3), Canada (2), Finland (2), France (2), Mexico (2), Sweden (1), Switzerland (1), Denmark (1), and Taiwan (1).
