July Toyota Certified Used Vehicle Sales Mark Sixth-Consecutive `Best Ever' Month

    TORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 27 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS),
U.S.A., Inc. reported today that sales of its Toyota Certified Used Vehicles
totaled 8,317 units for the month of July, an increase of 2.0 percent compared
to the same period last year.  Total year-to-date sales increased 7.8 percent,
up to 51,925 vehicles, versus last year.
    "June marked the sixth-consecutive month that Toyota Certified Used
Vehicle sales again exceeded 1997 figures," said Guillermo Hysaw, TMS
corporate manager, used vehicle department.  "As more of our dealer body
participates in the Certified Used program, more and more consumers are
becoming aware of just how advantageous it is to own a Toyota Certified
vehicle."
    The Toyota Certified Used Vehicle program, established in 1996, provides
the best pre-owned warranty in the industry.  The warranty, from date of first
use, includes six-year, 100,000-mile powertrain coverage, as well as an
optional comprehensive 100,000-mile warranty.  And, 24-hour roadside
assistance also is provided free of charge for one year.
    All 1994-1998 Toyota models with less than 55,000 miles are eligible for
the program.  Prior to sale, each vehicle receives a rigorous 128-point
inspection of all mechanical and safety functions, as well as overall
appearance considerations.
