Borg-Warner Automotive Drive-Chain Sprocket Recognized With Powder Metal Part-of-the-Year AwardCHICAGO, Aug. 24 -- A Borg-Warner Automotive Morse TEC-designed Gemini sprocket has been recognized with the 1998 Ferrous Powder Metal Part-of-the-Year Award. The sprocket, which is part of the chain-drive system of the General Motors Powertrain 4T65 front-wheel drive transmission, transmits power from a vehicle's engine to the transmission via two HY-VO(R) chains. It is one of the most technically advanced powder metal parts in the world. The patented Borg-Warner Automotive MORSE GEMINI(TM) chain system in which the sprocket is included significantly reduces transmission noise over the traditional single-tooth system, and is among the most advanced power transmission chain-drive system in production at GM. The joint developments in powder metal technology have led to affordable means of manufacturing the complex design of phased sprockets on a mass production scale. The award was presented to Borg-Warner Automotive Morse TEC, along with Stackpole Limited, which manufactures the sprocket, and General Motors, at the Metal Powder Industries Federation International Conference on Powder Metallurgy and Particulate Materials in Las Vegas, Nev. "The Ferrous Powder Metal Part-of-the-Year Award is prestigious recognition of the Borg-Warner Automotive commitment to product leadership," said Ronald M. Ruzic, president and general manager, Morse TEC. "We are delighted to receive the award and congratulate our co-recipients, Stackpole Limited and General Motors, on the culmination of a remarkable achievement in technological excellence."
