Acura Announces Pricing for All-New U.S. Built 1999 3.2TL; New Model Unveiled Live on Internet at www.acura.com
TORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 20 -- Acura announced today a
completely re-designed 3.2TL performance luxury sedan for the 1999 model year.
The new U.S.-built TL, developed to set new benchmarks in the very competitive
near-luxury segment, also has been priced to offer class-leading value with an
unprecedented list of standard luxury features. The price for the
fully-equipped 3.2TL is $27,950. The only factory-installed option available
for the TL is the Acura Navigation System, which brings the new 3.2TL's MSRP
to $29,950.
"The TL has undergone such a significant transformation, it completely
redefines the near luxury category," said Rich Thomas, Acura's executive vice
president and general manager. "Priced at only $27,950, the TL is setting a
new standard in its class. And with a wealth of standard features, luxury
appointments and a sporty performance, the only thing 'near' luxury about the
new TL is the price."
At the core of the new TL is a compact, newly designed, 3.2-liter,
225-horsepower VTEC V-6, with more power than any of its competitors. This
new engine is mated to a sophisticated electronically controlled four-speed
automatic transmission with a Sequential SportShift system for semi-manual
shifting or fully automatic operation.
The TL's chassis is based on Acura's all new Mid-Size Global platform,
which features significant advances in torsional and bending rigidity and
safety engineering.
Designed in Honda R&D studios in Torrance, California, the new TL features
dynamic and elegant exterior styling with a sweeping, open cockpit-type
interior.
Manufactured at the Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio, the 1999 TL debuts as
the second Acura model, after the CL coupe, to be designed, engineered and
manufactured in the U.S. With the addition of the TL, more than 50 percent of
all Acuras will be manufactured in the U.S. The TL's 3.2-liter engine is
manufactured in Anna, Ohio, contributing to the car's 98 percent domestic
content.
The all new TL will be unveiled live on the Internet today on the Acura
website at http://www.acura.com. Those logging on to the site will be able to view
the car via a series of video clips, which highlight the new TL's styling and
features.
Like all Acura models, the TL is covered by a comprehensive 4-year/50,000
mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty. Additional ownership benefits include
Acura Total Luxury Care (TLC), which provides free 24-hour roadside
assistance, concierge service and trip routing.
