Trico Products Corporation to Remain in Western New York; Membership Overwhelmingly Ratifies Agreement
BUFFALO, N.Y., Aug. 18 -- Trico Products Corporation today
announced that based on an agreement reached with its union and financial
incentives provided by state, city and county agencies, the company would
retain its manufacturing operations in the City of Buffalo. The company will
retain approximately 200 positions with possible job growth in future years.
"On behalf of Trico, we would like to thank our workforce, both the local
and international UAW, Governor Pataki, Mayor Masiello and County Executive
Gorski in working so diligently to keep these valuable jobs in the Western New
York economy," said Patrick J. DiNicola, Senior Vice President, Finance and
Administration, Trico Products Corporation. "This is a great day for Trico as
we have achieved a long-term solution in Buffalo in meeting the demands of the
extremely volatile automotive industry."
Scott Adams, international representative, UAW, Bob McTiernan, President,
UAW Local 2100 and Herb Fulsom, shop committee chairman, UAW Local 2100
concurred that the agreement was extremely positive for the workforce and
Trico. "This agreement marks a significant new beginning in the relationship
between labor and management and we look forward to meeting the global
challenges confronting our industry, together," Adams said.
Fulsom announced that the Trico employees represented by the UAW
overwhelmingly ratified a new agreement, "to permit the company and the
employees to jointly work together and compete as a world-class manufacturing
operation."
Subject to finalization, the company will be relocating its workforce,
equipment and operations from the current manufacturing facility on
817 Washington Street to an existing, one-story building on Thielman Drive in
the City of Buffalo. The relocation is expected to take up to six months.
"We can not answer a lot of questions regarding our operations in the new
facility because our move is still six months down the road," DiNicola
continued. "However, once we are closer to that point and have determined the
final composition of our workforce and a specific production schedule, we hope
to have more information to share with the public," he concluded.
Trico Products Corporation is one of the world's leading manufacturers of
windshield wiping systems, windshield wiper blades and refills, with one or
more of Trico products used on 75 percent or more of original equipment models
in North America.
