Dana Corporation Named to List of Top 100 Companies for Managing Business RelationshipsTOLEDO, Ohio, Aug. 18 -- Dana Corporation has been named to CIO magazine's 11th annual list of the top 100 companies that exemplify the highest level of business partnerships. The "CIO-100" recognizes companies that excel at "value-chain management." CIO magazine explains that value-chain management is "the sequence of activities a company carries out to create products and services and generate revenue. "Managing the value chain involves building and maintaining strong relationships with constituents that complete the value chain -- suppliers, customers, vendors, outsourcers, partners, and even competitors. The CIO winners have flourished in forging solid bonds with these business constituents," the magazine said. Dana was recognized for its use of innovative information technology practices to integrate business goals and corporate vision, the magazine said. Selection of the winners was based on a ballot vote. Members of the CIO editorial staff examined Fortune magazine's top 700 U.S.-based companies and selected 400 candidates equally divided among four industries -- finance, retail, manufacturing, and service/other. A team of 28 industry experts -- consisting of academicians, consultants, and analysts -- reviewed the candidates and selected the top 100 companies. Dana Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Southwood J. Morcott said, "This honor comes at a time when Dana's customer base is growing rapidly, and our people understand the importance of using modern technologies to work with these customers. We are honored that CIO magazine has recognized these efforts." This is the second recent honor that Dana has received for its technological innovations. In June, PC Week magazine named Dana as one of the nation's 10 most technologically innovative companies. One of the world's largest independent suppliers to vehicular, off- highway, and industrial manufacturers and their related aftermarkets, Dana Corporation produces components used on more than 95 percent of the world's 650 million motor vehicles. Founded in 1904 and based in Toledo, Ohio, the company operates 270 major facilities in 33 countries and employs more than 79,000 people. The company had pro forma sales of $11.9 billion in 1997.
