Quantum Controls Presents 'Next Generation Combustion Engine Emissions Testing' At National Instruments' NIWeek '98

    DETROIT, Aug. 18 -- Plymouth, Michigan-based Quantum
Controls, Inc. (QCI) will give a keynote address at National Instruments'
NIWeek '98 -- presenting a unique application of NI products
for vehicle emissions testing at Chrysler Corporation .  More than
1,000 NIWeek attendees, on August 25, will hear about the "true virtual
instrument system" that allows engineers to measure the gas concentrations at
various points in the exhaust stream of a vehicle.  The distributed control
PC-based system makes use of a new automotive emission communications standard
based on the Standard Communication Protocol for Instruments (SCPI).
    The benefits of the system include reduced downtime, decreased costs, and
a flexible, modular design.
    "We've worked closely with Chrysler over the past two years to develop
this new system," said Pat Grimes, QCI Sales Manager.  "It promises to
redefine the way combustion engine emissions testing and calibrations are done
in the future as emissions allowances continue to decrease.  Stricter EPA
standards covering the small engine market, such as lawn equipment, will
further increase demand for this type of system."
