The Timken Company Declares Quarterly Dividend

    CANTON, Ohio, Aug. 7 -- The board of directors of The Timken
Company today declared a quarterly cash dividend of eighteen cents per share.
The dividend is payable on September 8, 1998, to shareholders of record at the
close of business on August 21, 1998.  It will be the 305th consecutive
dividend paid on the common stock of the company.
    The Timken Company is a leading international manufacturer of
highly engineered bearings and alloy steels.  The company employs 21,000
people worldwide and reported 1997 sales of more than U.S. $2.6 billion.
