Conyers-Riverside Ford Sponsors Community Awareness Day; 15+ Detroit Organizations to Participate
    DETROIT, Aug. 7 -- Conyers-Riverside Ford -- Detroit's only,
and the country's oldest, black owned dealership -- will sponsor "Community
Awareness Day" on Saturday, August 8, 1998 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the
dealership at 1833 E. Jefferson Avenue.
More than 15 local community-oriented organizations will participate in
this free event. "This is part of our on-going effort to educate and inform
our community," said Riverside's President Nathan G. Conyers. "We want to
provide information and resources that make better citizens, and enhance their
lives." Participating organizations include Focus:HOPE, The Skillman
Foundation's Parenting Matters Project, The Greening of Detroit, Homes for
Black Children and COTS, among many others. A family affair, the event will
also feature the Warner Brothers ("WB") Frog, hydroplane racer Jerry Bell and
his hydroplane boat, clowns, jugglers and a special flea market to benefit
Children's Hospital of Michigan.
The Community Awareness Day's focus is to increase awareness of the
numerous community organizations that exist and the benefits they provide. In
addition to showcasing resources, the groups will also introduce their
organizations to potential volunteers. Conyers concluded, "This event has
something for everyone ... when we help each other, we all win."
