Briggs & Stratton Declares Dividend

    MILWAUKEE, Aug. 5 -- Briggs & Stratton Corporation
:
    At the regular quarterly meeting of the Board of Directors of Briggs &
Stratton Corporation, held today, a quarterly dividend of Twenty-nine cents
($0.29) per share was declared on the common stock of the Corporation, payable
October 1, 1998 to shareholders of record at the close of business August 27,
1998.
