Ingersoll-Rand Declares Quarterly Dividend

    WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Aug. 5 -- Ingersoll-Rand Company's
board of directors today declared a quarterly dividend of 15 cents per common
share, payable September 1 to shareowners of record on August 18, 1998.
    Ingersoll-Rand has paid consecutive quarterly cash dividends on
its common shares since 1919 and annual dividends since 1910.
    The company is a major diversified industrial equipment and components
manufacturer.  Its product lines serve a wide range of industrial and
