Latrobe Steel Company Becomes Timken Latrobe Steel
CANTON, Ohio, Aug. 4 -- The Timken Company
announced today that its Latrobe Steel Company subsidiary will change its name
to Timken Latrobe Steel.
"The names Timken and Latrobe both have outstanding reputations for
exceptional value in engineered materials," said Hans Sack, group vice
president - specialty steel and president - Timken Latrobe Steel. "As The
Timken Company prepares to celebrate its centennial year in 1999, we proudly
emphasize the relationship of Latrobe Steel to our parent, The Timken Company.
The new name will also serve Timken Latrobe Steel's international aspirations
as the Timken brand name has a strong global appeal in many markets."
Timken Latrobe Steel units OH&R and Koncor Industries will also change
their names. OH&R -- a distribution and service subsidiary comprised of the
former Ohio Alloy Steels and Houghton & Richards Corporation -- will become
Timken Latrobe Steel Distribution. Koncor Industries will be known as Timken
Latrobe Steel Distribution (Koncor).
Timken Latrobe Steel remains a separate legal entity as a subsidiary of
The Timken Company. The organizational structures of the units and their
customer relationships are unaffected by the changes.
The Timken Company is a leading international manufacturer of highly
engineered bearings, alloy and specialty steels. The company employs some
21,000 people worldwide and reported 1997 sales of $2.6 billion.
