Toyota Sets Numerous Sales Records with Strong July
TORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 3 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A.,
Inc. today announced strong July sales of 122,550 vehicles, up 12.5 percent
over last year. Calendar-year-to-date (CYTD) sales total 757,816, an increase
of 2.7 percent compared to the same period last year.
"The strong consumer spending in the second quarter continued through July
and helped Toyota set a string of significant sales records," said Yale
Gieszl, TMS executive vice president.
The Toyota Division recorded sales of 107,877, up 8.3 percent from last
July, marking the first time in its 41-year history that Toyota Division sales
topped 100,000 vehicles for three consecutive months. The Lexus Division
reported its best-ever sales month with July sales of 14,673, an increase of
57.9 percent over the same period last year. Lexus Division CYTD sales now
stand at 83,041, up 55.0 percent.
Camry recorded its best-ever July, shattering the old mark set last year
with sales of 39,446, an increase of 21.2 percent. Calendar-year-to-date
Camry sales now stand at 229,405. Also smashing a July record set last year
was Avalon with 6,896 sales, up 8.1 percent. Corolla also posted strong sales
with 22,960, up 5.3 percent from the same period last year.
Toyota also recorded best-ever July sales of Land Cruiser with 1,530
sales, up 53.2 percent. Sienna posted strong sales of 6,519, the best-ever
month for a Toyota passenger van.
Tacoma compact-truck sales had a strong month with 14,127 sales, up
11.9 percent from the same period last year.
The Lexus Division's record-setting month was led by the all-new RX 300,
which totaled 4,833 sales. The LX 470 nearly doubled its sales from last July
with a best-ever sales month of 1,319 units, up 92.0 percent. The GS 300/400
recorded its best-ever July with 2,537 sales.
Sales of North American-built vehicles made up 62.8 percent of total July
sales, up from 61.1 percent the previous year.
