Subaru Announces Pricing on 1999 Model Year Impreza and Forester Models; Pricing Remains at 1998 Levels

    CHERRY HILL, N.J., July 31 -- Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA)
announced today the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) on the 1999
model year Impreza and Forester line-ups. With several new equipment
enhancements and no increase in price, the 1999 Impreza and Forester models
boast even more outstanding value. In keeping with the company's strategic
direction, the 1999 model year Impreza and Forester models are exclusively
all-wheel drive.

    SUBARU IMPREZA
    The Impreza L model line and Outback Sport receive a new Phase II
2.2 liter SOHC engine with horsepower increased to 142 @ 5600 RPM and torque
increased to l49 LBS-FT @ 3600 RPM. A new, more efficient 4EAT automatic
transmission has been added as well. Exterior upgrades include new
multi-reflector halogen headlights for all models and a redesigned front
grille for the Outback Sport.
    The Impreza 2.5 RS receives a host of new standard features including an
upgraded leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, white gauge faces and
new dark gray interior fabric. Exterior/performance enhancements include the
Phase II 2.5 liter SOHC engine with torque increased to 166 LBS-FT @ 4000 RPM,
an aggressive new front bumper with fog lights and silver alloy wheels.
    The Impreza model line is available in coupe, sedan and wagon body styles.
The MSRP for the Impreza L coupe starts at $15,895 with manual transmission.
The manual transmission 2.5 RS has an MSRP of $19,195. The Impreza L sedan
model also starts at $15,895 with manual transmission. The Impreza L wagon is
priced at $16,295 with manual transmission and the Outback Sport has an MSRP
of $17,995 for the manual transmission model. Automatic transmission is
available on all Impreza models for $800. Two new color choices have been
added for the 1999 model year, Silverthorn Metallic and Aspen White.

    SUBARU FORESTER
    For the 1999 model year, the Forester receives the Phase II 2.5 liter SOHC
engine and a more efficient 4EAT automatic transmission. Two new paint colors
have been added for the 1999 model year, Silverthorn Metallic and Aspen White.
Additionally, the Forester L now includes standard power mirrors and new
interior fabric. Forester S now includes, as a standard feature, the All
Weather Package with dual-mode heated front seats and heated side-view
mirrors, driver's side wiper fin and windshield wiper de-icer in addition to
an in-glass antenna as standard equipment.
    The Forester is available in three trim levels:  Base, L and S. The 1999
model year Forester MSRP starts at $18,695 for manual transmission. The
Forester L model is priced at $19,995 with manual transmission. The Forester S
model is $22,495 with manual transmission. Automatic transmission is available
on L and S models for $800.
    Destination and delivery charges remain at $495 for all vehicles (except
in Alaska, $685).
